Intelligent Wastewater Pumping on the Rise

Intelligent Wastewater Pumping on the Rise

Xylem’s Flygt Concertor range has been setting new standards for energy-efficient, anti-clog pumping since its launch in 2016.

The latest addition, the Flygt Concertor 6030, can handle flows of up to 150lps and deliver significant energy savings while ensuring flexible, trouble-free pump performance. Designed for wastewater and heavy-duty service across treatment plants, it supports applications ranging from pumping stations to retention basins, sludge treatment and flood alleviation.

With advanced software and hardware, built-in intelligence and cutting-edge pump control, Flygt Concertor technology adapts its performance in real time, automatically optimising for each cycle. This adaptability allows the pumping station to respond swiftly to flow fluctuations, such as sudden extreme rainfall, while achieving up to 70% energy savings compared to conventional systems.

The Concertor 6030 features Flygt’s anti-clog Adaptive N technology, which enables the impeller to manage larger debris effectively. Coupled with automatic clog detection and pump cleaning capabilities, the technology minimises unplanned maintenance and downtime.

Designed for extended lifetimes, the Concertor 6030 not only boasts longevity but can reduce a pump and parts inventory by up to 85%. Its integrated intelligence ensures setup and operation are straightforward.

Helen Wilson, Industry & Infrastructure Sales Manager, Xylem, said: “Flygt continues to push the limits on technology to create the highest quality, most reliable and sustainable pumping systems on the market.

“The introduction of Concertor 6030 expands the innovative Flygt Concertor line to handle higher flows and heads, making true operational efficiency accessible to a larger network of pumping stations.

“Wastewater pumping station operators will continue to benefit from intelligent, trouble-free pumping, while seeing even more energy savings.

“For flood alleviation applications, the technology can manage stormwater and surface runoff, through separate or combined collection systems. helping build resilience in the face of more extreme weather patterns.

“Whether you’re just starting to adopt digital solutions or are on your way to full digital integration, Flygt Concertor has scalable control options to meet your needs.”

Focus on Flood Alleviation

Flygt pumps are integral to Xylem’s flood alleviation portfolio, reducing flood risks in both inland and coastal areas.

As rainfall become more extreme and unpredictable, advanced pumping systems are crucial for removing and redirecting excess stormwater to prevent flooding. Xylem’s technology safeguards homes, communities and critical infrastructure, ensuring resilience amid rising water levels.

In the town of Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire, in 2019, Xylem pumps helped prevent the collapse of a dam by quickly pumping out water from the reservoir and into the River Goyt, after days of unprecedented rainfall.

Xylem supported a major emergency response by deploying five 55kw 2250 Flygt submersible dewatering pumps to draw water out of the reservoir, at a rate of 250lps, per pump. Six Godwin diesel pumps and numerous smaller pumps were also supplied by Xylem, all on a rental basis.

In addition to Flygt pumps, Xylem’s flood alleviation technology features real-time monitoring tools and predictive analytics platforms.
